CUSTOMARY INSTALLATION
The Installation Ceremony begins with Dato' PENGELOLA BIJAYA DI-RAJA
bringing in the AL-QURAN into the Balairong Seri. He is accompanied by
the STATE MUFTI together with RAJA CHIK MUDA PAWANG DI-RAJA who carries
the STATE SWORD CURA SI MANJA KINI. The three are escorted and preceded
by PANGLIMA DALAM, the PANGLIMA PERANG KANAN and the PANGLIMA PERANG
KIRI along with the BENTARAS, one on the left and one on the
right. Upon arrival in front of the Royal Dais, DATO' PENGELOLA BIJAYA
DI-RAJA pays homage and seeks HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS' permission to place
the AL-QURAN on a special table. Following this RAJA CHIK MUDA PAWANG
DI-RAJA pays homage, bringing the tray bearing the STATE SWORD CURA SI
MANJA KINI to the second level of the Royal Dais. He presents it to HIS
ROYAL HIGHNESS.
HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS receives the STATE SWORD, takes it out of its sheath and kisses it.
The Ceremony continues with TOH SERI NARA DI-RAJA entering the Balairong
Seri and proceeding to the second level of the Royal Dais. He presents
the BEZOAR OF DEW (MESTIKA EMBUN) to HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS and whispers
the ANCESTRAL SECRET MESSAGE while fixing the CAP HALILINTAR to the
right ear of HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS.
It is then followed by the PROCLAMATION OF THE INSTALLATION OF HIS ROYAL
HIGHNESS THE SULTAN by the ORANG KAYA BENDAHARA SERI MAHARAJA. The
proclamation completed, the ORANG KAYA TEMENGGONG PADUKA RAJA moves
three steps towards the Royal Dais and proceeds to acclaim 'DAULAT
TUANKU' three times, repeated each time by all those present. After the
acclamation, HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS rises and nods to those present, after
which he resumes his seat. Then the ROYAL CEREMONIAL BAND beats forth
the INSTALLATION BEAT (NOBAT TABAL) simultaneously with a twenty-one gun
salute.
Having completed the Ceremony of the Installation of His Royal Highness,
the ORANG KAYA TEMENGGONG PADUKA RAJA opens the Ceremony of the
BESTOWAL OF THE ROYAL TITLE OF 'DULI YANG MAHA MULIA THE RAJA
PERMAISURI' upon HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, by paying homage to HIS ROYAL
HIGHNESS. He then seeks HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS blessings for HER ROYAL
HIGHNESS to have audience with him.
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, who is in full regalia, complete with GOLDEN ARMLETS
(PONTOH ULAR LIDI), stands up and pays homage to HIS ROYAL
HIGHNESS. Then TOK RAKNA SENARI enters, pays homage and hands the BUNGA
PENGAWA PENCARA to HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS who receives it and pins it to
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS' hair. Having done so, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS pays
homage and kisses HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS' hand after which HIS ROYAL
HIGHNESS invites her to take the seat beside him. This is followed by
the PROCLAMATION OF THE BESTOWAL by the ORANG KAYA BENDAHARA SERI
MAHARAJA.
The proclamation completed, the ORANG KAYA TEMENGGONG PADUKA RAJA
proceeds to acclaim 'DAULAT' three times which is repeated each time by
all those present. In return, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS nods her head.
Having completed the PROCLAMATION OF THE BESTOWAL OF THE ROYAL TITLE,
the RAJA CHIK MUDA PAWANG DI-RAJA begins the CEREMONY OF SPRINGKLING
THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES with LUSTRATION WATER (AIR PANCA BICARA).
After the SPRINKLING CEREMONY, there follows the reading of
congratulatory messages by HIS HIGHNESS RAJA MUDA representing, the
RAJA-RAJA AND TERRITORIAL CHIEFS (ORANG BESAR PERAK) a well as the
congratulatory message and the pledge of loyalty by the HONOURABLE CHIEF
MINISTER (MENTERI BESAR) OF PERAK on behalf of the Government and the
people of Perak.
The Customary Installation Ceremony ends with the ROYAL SPEECH by HIS
ROYAL HIGHNESS and the recitation of the blessings by SAHIBUL SAMAHAH,
the STATE MUFTI.
The CUSTOMARY INSTALLATION is followed by the INVOCATION OF THE PERAK
GUARDIAN SPIRITS and the following day THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES make a
PILGRIMAGE to THE ROYAL GRAVES. Since most of the ROYAL GRAVES are
located along the river bank, the PILGRIMAGE is made downstream in the
ROYAL HOUSE BOAT, named 'CHEMPAKA SARI' specially built for the
purpose. The PILGRIMAGE ends with the Royal visit to the BETING BERAS
BASAH in remembrance of the place where the first SULTAN OF PERAK was
declared SULTAN in 1528
